Bulls are significant to the San Fermín Festival because of the historical and symbolic role they play in celebrations.

St. Fermin, the patron saint of Pamplona, was a bishop and martyr who lived in the 3rd century. According to legend, Fermin was born in Pamplona and after becoming a Christian missionary he was arrested and martyred by being dragged through the streets of the city by bulls. The bulls in the San Fermín Festival are a tribute to the strength and resilience of the saint, symbolizing his journey and martyrdom.
